Kathy Harris

Kathy Harris has been interested in music since she was in college (a LONG time ago!) and bought her first guitar while attending school in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Life intervened, and she spent most of her adult years in her home town of Detroit, where she was employed as a social worker and then attorney doing civil rights cases for people with disabilities. She also met and married her best friend, Roger, an automotive engineer and talented musician who lured her back into music as retirement neared for both of them.

When they fell in love with Tucson and moved here in 2006, Roger and Kathy started performing as Two Way Traffic and helped organize open mics and hosted house concerts in their home. With friends, they also helped organize and performed a Music In The Schools program, where she wore a chicken suit, played the fiddle, and was affectionately known as "Chicken Fiddle". Unfortunately, Roger suffered an accident while volunteering at the Tucson Folk Festival in 2007 and passed away as a result of his injuries in 2010.

Kathy continued making music on her own. She plays autoharp, sings and writes songs, has performed as a solo act and with local groups including Heart Of The Strings and Wild Angels at local venues and folk festivals, including the Tucson Folk Festival the past three years.

Kathy is a strong supporter of live music in Tucson. She promotes local musicians in her home and has helped develop a number of local venues. She is also the organizer and President of the Mikulas Musicians Fund, a non-profit organization in her late husband’s name that provides emergency health care funds for Tucson musicians.

Kathy also helps host Broad Perspectives, a women’s radio show on KXCI, Tucson's community radio station, and she puts out a weekly e-mail newsletter listing the live acoustic music in town.

Kathy is currently a Board Member and Secretary of The Tucson Kitchen Musicians Association, the group who organizes the Tucson Folk Festival every year, a totally volunteer produced 2-day event.

Now a member of "I Hear Voices!", Kathy is thrilled to be singing with her good friends who have a common love of vocal music and a desire to connect with others through music in a direct and magical way.
